Proud to be supporting Armed Forces Day
We’re proud to say that at 24-7 Staffing we have a very close relationship with the Armed Forces. Perhaps more than any other recruitment business based in Wiltshire, we are intrinsically linked.
Many ex-Forces personnel work for us; indeed they make up a quarter of our team across our three offices in Chippenham, Bristol and – close to the heart of the Army bases – Salisbury.
A very large proportion of our candidates are from the Forces or they are connected in some way: either they are dependents, partners or spouses of serving military personnel or they are ex-Forces themselves. Indeed, some of our candidates are serving soldiers, who are allowed to take on casual shifts, when they are free, with their commanding officers’ permission. They work across all four of our sectors - driving, commercial, healthcare and industrial.
We are particularly delighted that, as a way of acknowledging our close links, we are able to take part in a national event that celebrates the Armed Forces and this year is taking place right on our doorstep.
June 29 has been designated Armed Forces Day, and the national celebration is being held in Salisbury, running for three days from June 28-30, and we are getting involved.
Between now and then, we’ll bring you some more detail about how we’re connected with the Armed Forces, and celebrate our links.
Our driving desk in Chippenham, for example, is operated by Marc Pearce a former soldier, Marc’s brother Dale is one of our drivers and our Compliance Manager, Jo Weir, is ex RAF. Our Bristol driving desk is operated by Helen Jones who also served in 9th Regiment and our Managing Director, Julian Thompson, was recently invited to attend the annual boxing event at 9th Regiment in Hullavington where we were delighted to be able to sponsor some of the bouts. We have couples and families who are all on our books as candidates… the Forces really are part of 24-7 Staffing’s DNA.
How to support Armed Forces Day
Armed Forces Day is a chance for individuals and businesses to show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets. It provides a much-valued morale boost for the troops and their families, including those serving in the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force.
A team from 24-7 Staffing plan to be at the Salisbury event in June. An anticipated 250,000 people are expected over the three days to join the celebrations and recognise our armed forces and the vital role they play in protecting us and our country, as well as honouring our veterans.
The packed programme features military parades, flypasts and an air show, concerts, live entertainment, trade stands and exhibitors, military and other displays, concerts and fireworks.
The event will also be going for a world record to create the largest human poppy on the event site at Hudson's Field.
If you can’t get along, there are other ways to get involved:
- Attend an event – there are hundreds of free events taking place across the UK.
- Hold an event, and invite friends, colleagues and neighbours over to celebrate the amazing work of our troops.
- Upload a photo or video of yourself or your friends and colleagues saluting on Twitter (@ArmedForcesDay), Facebook or Instagram using the hashtag #SaluteOurForces
- Fly your own Armed Forces Day flag, bunting, or banners. Search “Armed Forces Day Flag” on your preferred search engine to find your options.
We can all do something, however small, to say thank you to Forces people – those currently serving, veterans, cadets, or reservists – for what they do for us and are prepared to do for us.
If you are currently serving but looking at career options when you leave the military, or if you are ex-Forces and want a change of direction or a new role, please get in touch with the team and we will do all we can to help you in your career.
