Getting the most from your recruiter...

Two people shaking hands.

Top tips on getting the best from your recruitment partner

If you’ve just signed on with a recruitment company, you could be forgiven for thinking that’s all you need to do. You just need to sit back, twiddle your thumbs and your dream job will come calling, right?

Well, in an ideal world that is what happens. And here at 24-7 Staffing, we are very – let’s say that again – VERY proactive in searching for roles for our candidates and matching them with the perfect job.

But not all recruiters are as proactive as our team. You may find that you’ve signed up with a number of agencies and not heard a peep. Annoying? You bet.

And however go-getting your recruiter is, there are still ways you can help them (and us) in a job search, ensuring you get into new employment that much faster.

Here are our top tips on making the most of your relationship with us, or with your recruiter, and helping you land the job of your dreams.

Helping your recruiter to help you

It’s good to talk

Recruitment is all about people and partnership. We need to build a relationship with you and to learn all we can about you, so we can match you with a client.

For this reason, it’s important that you give us as much information about you as you can. Be specific, never vague. Having a really well-written CV, which highlights all your achievements and skills is just the first step.

Let us know what sort of employer you are looking for; not just the sector they are in but the culture and setup that appeals to you. If you have experience of working for a particular type of company and know what you liked and what you didn’t, then tell us.

We have really close relationships with our clients, and we know the type of person they are looking for. So, give us all the information you can, and that way we can match you all the more quickly.

Don’t be a stranger

Did we mention sitting back and twiddling your thumbs? Don’t do it. Keep in regular contact with your recruitment company. If that’s us, then feel free to pick up the phone and call, or pop into one of our branches – we’d love to see you.

We especially want to hear from you if anything changes in your circumstances. Maybe you have just gained a new qualification? Perhaps you are now looking for full-time rather than part-time work? You may be available for more shifts? Have you moved to a different area? Please let us know.

You know the saying ‘out of sight, out of mind’? By keeping yourself front and centre, you will be the first person we think of when the right role comes in.

Seize the day

Keep looking at the jobs boards and if you see something that meets your needs, and matches your skills and experience, then call immediately to discuss the vacancy. Don’t leave it until you’ve had that cup of tea, taken the dog for a walk, done the supermarket shop… do it straight away! Act fast so you’re ahead of the competition. We can talk about the particular role, and whether it suits you (and vice versa) and - if you meet the criteria - then we can put you forward.

Recruitment is all about people – the candidates, the clients, the recruiters. By talking, keeping in touch, and getting to know each other, we will find it easier to find you a job - and you will be in a new role quicker than you think!

If you are looking for a new position or a career change, we would love to hear from you. Please get in touch with the team today.
