Points based immigration system makes recruitment partnerships key

Government plans to introduce a new points-based immigration system make it all the more important for employers to team up with a reputable recruitment company, to ensure a continuing supply of reliable workers. 

The news announced recently, that under post-Brexit immigration plans low-skilled workers will not be allowed visas, will put added pressure on the employment market. This is already facing historically low unemployment, with the unemployment rate at 3.8 per cent in the three months to December 2019, the lowest since early 1975.  

Home Secretary Priti Patel wants employers to “move away” from relying on “cheap labour” from Europe and invest in retaining staff and developing automation technology. The new system is due to come into force in January 2021. 

At 24-7 Staffing, some roles in the sectors we support – including the care sector – fall into the ‘low skilled’ category, so we already know this area will have extra pressure put on the system. 

Add to this the burden of the new IR35 legislation that comes into force in April, and employers face a difficult time ahead unless they team up with a recruitment partner, such as 24-7 Staffing, to help fill temporary and permanent positions. 

Teaming up with a recruitment partner 

Our governing body, the REC commented, “The REC is concerned that these proposals will hurt the UK economy and public services”.  

While we share those concerns, we are confident that our longevity in the recruitment business (we have been operating since 2004), our reputation, and the way we fairly treat our candidates puts us in pole position to be able to support our clients and provide a continuing supply of excellent temporary and permanent workers.
