Increase in National Living Wage is good news for low paid workers

News that there is to be a substantial increase to the National Minimum Wage and the National Living Wage is welcome for low paid workers across the country.

At 24-7 Staffing, we’re delighted with the decision, announced in the Budget by Chancellor Rishi Sunak, that there will be an inflation-busting increase from next April.

As recruiters specialising in some of the lowest paid sectors of our economy – including healthcare and industrial – this is very good news for our candidates.

From April, workers aged over 23 will see an increase in the National Living Wage to £9.50 an hour, from £8.91. This means a full-time worker will get £1,074 extra a year before tax.

Those aged 21 to 22, entitled to the National Minimum Wage, will see a rise from £8.36 to £9.18 an hour. The Apprentice Rate will increase from £4.30 to £4.81 an hour.

The changes have been made on the recommendation of the Low Pay Commission, and represent a 6.6% increase in the National Living Wage.

This means, we pay all our staff and candidates at least the National Living Wage, regardless of their age.

We believe this increase will make a welcome difference to those on low pay, who carry out such vital roles. We are not just talking about carers, who look after elderly and vulnerable people in our communities, but the hundreds of lower paid key workers who have been so essential in ensuring our economy keeps running through the Covid pandemic.
