At 24-7 Staffing, we’re keen to nurture talent and encourage young people to join the great profession of recruitment.
So we were eager to sign up to the Government’s Kickstart scheme, which helps fund six-month work placements for young people.
What we hadn’t expected was that one of our recruits would turn into such a superstar! Brad Kent joined us on a Kickstart placement, very soon becoming a valuable member of our team, and we love him so much we’ve even nominated him for an award!
So let’s meet Brad Kent…
Brad joined us on June 1, 2021 so is just about coming up for his one year anniversary. Brad’s background is in production line assembly work, which he had been employed in since leaving college aged 18.
“I left college and needed something ASAP, so went into production line work. I enjoyed it because it was fast-paced and busy. I’m a fast learner with an eye for detail, and I really enjoyed learning the role, and I stayed there because it was a secure job.”
He left his workplace when he relocated to Chippenham, thinking he’d soon find a new position. But the pandemic struck, and so Brad found himself in a new town, and without a job.
“Through the Job Centre, they were helping me find work. I was originally looking for similar jobs, but then Kickstart came up. From college, I have an IT diploma, but I hadn’t been sure what to develop that into, but having this helped me expand the scope of roles to look for.
“I liked the sound of 24-7 Staffing, and I knew I could put my IT and admin skills to use. It was a really nice environment so I thought I would give it a go, and I am so glad I did.”
Brad began with basic admin duties, supporting our consultants in processing the candidates. He’s a fast learner and became efficient very quickly, so we were able to give him more duties and increase his hours. He started in a part-time position, but he’s become so indispensable, he is now almost full-time. Once his six-month Kickstart placement was complete, we were very happy to extend his contract, and he’s now a permanent staff member.
“I am very happy to be here. I have learned so much in the last year, and I have a lot more confidence. I didn’t have much confidence before, in speaking to people face-to-face or on the phone, but this has really helped me come out of my shell.
“The funny thing is, the place I used to work in production is a client of 24-7 Staffing, so I am back in touch with them, but in a very different role. I am glad I switched to recruitment, because what I look for is progression and there is much more opportunity to progress here and I really enjoy learning new things.”
We’ve now nominated Brad for the Significant Contribution Award, in the Kickstart Awards, and are keeping our fingers crossed for him. He really deserves to do well.
We knew very early on that Brad was a great addition to our team.
Soon after he started, a member of the management team was unexpectedly forced to take several months out of the business, which left a long list of tasks that needed to be covered. We asked Brad if he would be up for the challenge of learning some of the processes that needed to be covered and Brad's response was amazing! He was keen to assist however he could. Given the circumstances and additional pressure on the team he was happy to be able to help and get more involved, taking on additional hours to do so.
