Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join an already successful and expanding company as an experienced I.T Manager. Our client is embarking on a period of growth and expansion and is seeking a logical and tenacious individual with a proven ability to work with a diverse management team.

The successful candidate will be the point of contact for all non-IT staff and be a competent and confident voice when discussing matters concerning IT systems, hardware and software. You will need to be able to articulate technical issues with non-technical work colleagues effectively and dispassionately. Strong documentation and communication skills are vital whilst also having the patience and determination to remedy problems efficiently.

Technical Experience - Required

  • In depth knowledge of project management tools
  • Excellent knowledge of IPSEC tunnels and OpenVPN
  • Exceptional networking skills with the ability to plan, build and manage existing networking infrastructure
  • Strong background in Server environments
  • Experience with Active Directory and Group Policy design
  • Experience of Cisco Meraki Layer 3 switches
  • Experience with PF Sense routers
  • Working knowledge of Linux, administration and performance optimisation.
  • Experience with multi-platform environments (we use Windows, Mac and Linux)
  • Experience of Sophos Endpoint Protection

Your responsibilities as the IT Manager:

  • To take lead in determining strategic direction for IT hardware and systems development for all parts of the TSAS group (UK and Netherlands)
  • To manage the IT resource (internal and external) on a commercial footing, ensuring development and support work is agreed and conducted in the spirit of providing Value for Money at all times
  • To propose and agree with senior management the program of development projects for each year and ensure the budget fairly reflects cost in terms of time and resource
  • To manage and support the IT team and ensure deliverables are planned, adequately resourced and delivered in accordance with predetermined timescales
  • To represent the company with all third party/external bodies in matters concerning legal compliance (including GDPR), certification, licences etc
  • To write and maintain all IT policies for the group

Departmental Management

  • Represent the IT function on the senior management team
  • Take direction from and negotiate with the management team for all demands on the IT department
  • Manage the workload of the IT team and ensure the department is adequately and appropriately resourced at all times especially during times of peak seasonal demand
  • Maintain ticketing system to log all work requests and report to management on performance against tickets
  • Prioritise departmental workload with due consideration to all stakeholders
  • Promote continuous training and development of all members of the IT department in the best interests of the group
  • Responsible for IT recruitment and IT staff appraisals and periodic reviews

Project Management

  • Lead implementation of IT based projects and broader multi departmental and cross discipline projects as appropriate
  • Ensure budgets and deadlines are adhered to for all approved projects
  • Report on performance against project milestones, identify risks of missing targets and action remedies to bring projects back on time and on budget

Budgetary Responsibility

  • Proposing budgetary spend for the businesses IT needs and controlling spend against the budget, both operational expenditure and capital expenditure
  • Approving all IT related purchase requisitions
  • Reporting on IT activity and spend as it may relate to claims for R&D Tax Relief

Software and Systems

  • Responsible for the security of the network and control of user access through the firewall
  • Maintain log of all software and user licences and ensure licences are renewed in a timely fashion
  • Support software developers in the development of existing and new systems and the deployment of upgrades throughout the group
  • Provide 1st to 3rd line support to all users

Site IT Infrastructure

  • Physical security of IT assets at all sites within the group
  • Ensuring the efficient and continuous operation and availability of the company networks at all times
  • Defining and implementing an appropriate level of network resilience including backup processes, network and server redundancy
  • Control what, how and when hardware is connected to the company networks
  • Preparing and maintain the company’s Disaster Recovery Plan
  • Maintaining asset register of all IT equipment


  • Liaise with all other departmental managers to ensure IT service meets internal customer requirements
  • Work with all users to optimize their experience of working with IT equipment
  • Be the point of contact for all non-IT staff and be a confident and competent voice when discussing matters concerning IT systems, hardware and software
  • Ensuring adequate cover for roles within the IT department
  • Any other duties as directed from time to time
