Job Description

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a successful and thriving business as an IT Systems Administrator. Within the role, your main goal will be to ensure that the company’s technology infrastructure runs smoothly and efficiently, always enabling the system users to function and work proficiently. You will monitor performance and maintain systems according to requirements as well as troubleshooting of any issues and outages. With this, you will be in charge of installing, configuring and maintaining software, hardware and networks. You will be in charge of ensuring the security and efficiency of the IT infrastructure through access controls, backups and firewalls whilst managing network servers and technology tools. It will be your responsibility to set up accounts and workstations and to upgrade all systems with new releases and models.

Duties and Key Responsibilities:

  • Install and configure computer hardware, networks, operating systems and applications (desktops and servers).
  • Replace hardware and parts as required.
  • Troubleshoot system, network problems, diagnose, and solve hardware/software faults.
  • Manage network servers and technology tools
  • Maintain Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, etc.
  • Monitor performance and maintain systems according to requirements
  • Ensure security through access controls, backups and firewalls
  • Build an internal wiki with technical documentation, manuals and IT policies
  • Support the rollout of new computer applications.
  • Provide telephone, e-mail and remote support to all IT users, solving their problems and providing procedural documentation as required.
  • Set up new users’ accounts and profiles and deal with password issues.
  • Assist end users to transfer data electronically into, between and from databases with the required security procedures.
  • Identify and correct or advise, on operational issues with end users’ computer systems.
  • Manage backups of all systems ensuring that they run successfully, and to manage rotation of backups off-site for safe storage.
  • Update systems and servers regularly with approved software updates.
  • Monitor system & server logs, following up on any security or performance issues.
  • Maintain the inventory of hardware and software licenses and telephone contracts.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with, colleagues, end users and other professionals (e.g., suppliers and software developers).
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities in line with current security procedures.
  • Carry out any other reasonable request within the capability of the job

Your Abilities and Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a System Administrator, Network Administrator or similar role
  • Experience with databases, networks (LAN, WAN) and patch management
  • Knowledge of system security (e.g. intrusion detection systems) and data backup/recovery
  • Ability to create code and scripts in SQL, VB, PLC/HMI or other languages
  • BSc/Ba in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline; professional certification (e.g. Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA)) is a plus
  • Ability to create scripts in Python, Perl or other language
  • Familiarity with various operating systems and platforms
  • Linux experience, with Debian based distributions
  • Networking, particularly Cisco Meraki layers 2 and 3 switches
  • VLANs/subnets and IPSec VPNs
  • PFSense administration experience
  • High availability LAMP/LEMP web infrastructure
  • Docker/Kubernetes
  • MySQL (or other open source databases) replication, administration
  • Windows server and active directory
  • Distributed file systems such as Ceph or Glusterfs
  • Ability to think and act strategically and proactively
  • Effective planning and organisational skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude
  • You should also have the patience to communicate with a variety of interdisciplinary teams and users.
